Two Roses

Sometimes in the last stages of a painting, when it is almost fully realized, I add certain elements to make the painting complete. In this case, without the red petals on the left side of the painting it just wouldn't feel well balanced with the weight of the flowers and vase dominating the right side of the painting. A dash of color is often all that is needed to make a painting feel complete.

Still Life with Kabocha

I just learned that kabocha is the generic Japanese word for squash. Here in the States it's labeled Kabocha Squash... so basically translated means "squash squash". I thought that was funny for some reason. Hope you're all well!

I've been working on this painting for the past few days and have been enjoying the wider format. I added an onion on the very left of the painting... the one hiding in the shadow, in the last 10 minutes of working on it. Once I added it to the painting it seem to work better. If you put your thumb up to your monitor and block that onion out you'll see what I mean.

On another note, some of the paintings I have been posting lately are displayed with a frame. This is to give you a sense of what it might look like framed and to show that the painting is available to be purchase framed and ready to hang.
