Exploring a bit with this one. I started with a warmer base than usual.. a strong reddish brown. I think it really adds to the contrast and mood of the scene to have those hints of warm brown showing through the top layer of paint. It set a nice unexpected tone for the piece.

OMG, Justin! This IS a moody painting! I love it!
Yeah nice mate, I agree that reddish tone in behind as added depth and mystery - nice job.
Excellent work, Justin. I love the warm tones.
Justin, I was immediately attracted to this painting because of the mood and I loved seeing the underpainting showing through here and there. The clouds are luminous and airy, and repeating that beautiful reddish brown in the land is perfect. Really enjoyed this.
Love seeing the underpainting, wow. Great surface texture and paint that really talks to me.
I love it. Absolutely love it.
Amazing. Wish I could afford it! You have joined the ranks of my landscape painting heroes!
Beautiful work, Justin
Beautiful! I've been playing around alot lately with different colored grounds as well, everything from reddish oranges to light yellows and even some deeper shades of violet and turqoise. It's amazing how different the same colors appear when glazed over different grounds. I keep a stack of canvases that have already been toned available so I can grab one when inspiration strikes. I love the reddish brown undertone to this painting, and the loose brushwork is perfect. Really has a wonderful atmosphere.
Very nice painting!
